I am not sure how strong this trend manifests in India. But have a feeling that the young and old are meeting up too often because of social networking. Did see odd status post enlisting people for that trip to Goa and also came across instances of people herding other people for the hurriedly organized party.
Surely this works when you are traveling. Just posting my travel plans helped when I last visited Mumbai. Was able to meet a lot of friends and generally have good time and salvage what looked like a dull and dreary trip.
